Home Weatherization Assistance Program (HWAP) is an energy assistance program designed to reduce energy costs for low-income individuals and families. The program provides a review of the home to determine the most cost-effective energy saving measures such as; insulation of attics, sidewalls, heating ducts, floors, water heaters, and the reduction of air leakage in the home. A safety inspection on the combustion appliances such as heating unit, gas stove, water tank, etc. will also be performed. Weatherization can save up to 25% on utility bills.
Eligibility for the program is as follows:
- All applicants must reside in Highland County
- Households must have a gross income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines
OR
- Families/Individuals receiving assistance from Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) any time during the last twelve months
This program has many applicants. It may take up to two years to have your home weatherized. Please call 393-3458 for additional information.
