CSBG – Public Notice
The Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) is a federally funded block grant in the Office of Community Services, Administration for Children and Families, United States Department of Health and Human Services. Over 1,000 Community Action Agencies provide CSBG funded services and activities including housing, nutrition, utility, and transportation assistance; employment, education, and other income and asset building services; crisis and emergency services; and community asset building initiatives, among other things. Over 9 million individuals are served by CSBG-funded programs annually. HCCAO serves over 8,000 unduplicated individuals throughout the county each year. HCCAO, Inc. is preparing our application at this time. While the amount of dollars to be provided has not been released, from past experience we believe it will be $340,000 over a 2 year period. Based on our needs assessment, HCCAO will utilize this funding to meet gaps within our community. Individuals must be below 200% of the federal poverty level. Examples of what we propose to provide services for in the coming year are as follows:
• HCCAO provides Home Delivered Meals to over 165 seniors throughout the county each weekday. We also have a waiting list of over 50 people. Grant funding is limited from the Area Agency on Aging. As in the past, HCCAO will need to provide subsidy in the amount of $100,000 minimum per year to keep this program operating through CSBG funds.
• Funds will be utilized to meet minor needs throughout the county of individuals who are trying to improve their lives. Anticipated services will include funding for various minor needs. Assistance with trash removal, gasoline to maintain employment, funds to purchase a birth certificate or other necessary item/services which do not have funding available.
• Funds are also utilized to help to subsidize the HCCAO Transportation Program. We receive minimal funding from the Area Agency on Aging. This funding is utilize to transport seniors for health related appointments.
• Funds may be utilized to purchase food and personal care products that are provided 5 days per week in both our Greenfield and Hillsboro locations. There is no other provider offering these services all week long.
• Funds may also be utilized to assist us in maintaining certain programs that are coming to an end due to many COVID assistance dollars expiring. Due to not knowing the full amount of funding, at this time, a final budget has not been prepared. However, at this time, we wanted to notify you of our plan.
