Volunteering and Gifts

Highland County Community Action Organization, Inc. is a private non profit Corporation. While we receive funding from a variety of sources including grants through the State and Federal Government, these funds are not sufficient to meet the ever changing needs within our county. We seek contributions in several ways.

FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS: Due to our status as a 501c(3) Corporation all financial contributions are tax deductible.  We can use these donations to help fill gaps in critical areas such as our Senior Nutrition Program, Food Pantry and Minor Needs areas.  If you would like to make a charitable contribution to our organization, please contact Julia Wise, Executive Director at 937-393-3458 or mail contributions to HCCAO, 1487 North High Street, Suite 500, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133.  We will return a receipt to you which you can utilize when completing your tax returns for the coming year.  You can also specify what areas you would like these funds to be used for or ask they be dedicated to the program with greatest financial need.

FOOD AND PERSONAL CARE CONTRIBUTIONS: Our food pantry provides meals to thousands of county residents each year.  Your donation of shelf stable items and canned goods assist us in assuring that no Highland County resident goes hungry at night.  While we receive limited grant dollars to support the pantry, these funds cannot be used to purchase personal care items for families.  Items needed including soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, shampoo, paper towels, toothbrushes, deodorant and such are always needed.  If you would like to sponsor a food or pantry drive within your local business, we can help.  Give us a call at 937-393-3458 and ask for Outreach.

VOLUNTEERS: We can always use volunteers who desire to serve in various areas whether it be doing some basic office work such as copying or sorting or preparing materials to people who can help out at our Nutrition Site, Food Pantry or Head Start Center.  If you have a few hours to give, don’t hesitate to call us at 937-393-3458 and we can place you in an area of greatest need.

ADOPT A FAMILY: Each Christmas, HCCAO receives hundreds of requests for gifts for children from families in need.  Since HCCAO currently has one of the highest unemployment rates in the county–we are in need more than ever.  If you would like to Adopt-A-Child or Family this Christmas, we can match you with a child and provide you with information on their age, gifts desired and clothing sizes.  You bring the gifts to us and we assure that they get to a needy family this holiday.  Most important, HCCAO serves as a clearinghouse for various other entities in the county which are also distributing Christmas Gifts to Children.  We match various agencies and groups lists together to make sure that duplications do not occur. Call our Outreach Office at 937-393-3458 for more information.
