Child Development

website-mgrs-pam-andersonThe HCCAO, Inc. Head Start program is committed to providing quality services to children 3-5 years of age and their families. A developmental screening for each child is completed at the beginning of the school year to identify problems early so appropriate referrals can be made.

We use the Creative Curriculum for Preschool, Federal Head Start Child Outcomes Framework, and Ohio Early Learning Content Standards to track what children know already and next steps for learning. The teaching staff use this information to plan group and individualized learning activities for the classrooms. The Second Step Curriculum and Ages and Stages Social/ Emotional Questionnaire are also used to provide Social-Emotional learning supports throughout the school year.

We want to partner with parents so teachers schedule parent-teacher conferences and home visits to provide time for sharing of information between parents and staff. Partnerships with Scioto-Paint Valley Mental Health provide for classroom observations and staff training. Local public schools also partner with us to provide special education services and kindergarten transitioning.
